This Look Proud nail color trio set inspired me to create today’s 4th of July Nails. All these 3 Look Nail colors are quick dry creme polishes. The formula was good – not too runny or not too thick. I was able to do water marble with them. White – ‘Broad Stripes Bright Stars ‘and Red – ‘Rocket’s Red glare’ gets opaque in one coat. Blue – ‘Oh say can you see’ requires 2 coats for full opacity. I love their White polish most. It is opaque and applies streak free.
Though Look Proud trio set works great for water marble and stamping, i thought of trying something new for my 4th of July nails. I had shared 3D basket weave nails tutorial long back here. I felt this technique would work great with Look Proud colors.
There is little twist to my previous Basket weave nail art tutorial. I am featuring Straight nail vinyls from Snail Vinyls this time. So sharing the tutorial once again.

Step by Step Tutorial for 4th Of July Nails with 3D basket Weave nail art technique:
Part I : Preparing Stripes using Straight Nail vinyls (Click on image for larger view)
Step 1. Stick Straight Nail Vinyls on a zip lock bag.
Step 2. Apply 2 -3 coats of Tri nail colors in between straight nail vinyls.
Step 3: After applying last coat of polish, remove the straight nail vinyls immediately. Let them dry for couple of hours.
Part II: Weaving the Stripes (Click on image for larger view)
Step 4: Stick a thin strip of double sided tape on zip lock bag. Attach edges of polish stripes on that double sided tape.
Step 5: Lift 2, 4 and 6th stripes and insert horizontal strip to start weaving.
Step 6: Lift alternate vertical stripes i.e. 1, 3 and 5th and insert another horizontal strip.
Step 7: Continue above 2 steps till you get weaved stripes.
Part III: Application on to nails (Click on image for larger view)
Step 8 : Apply White nail polish as base.
Step 9: When base is semi wet, stick weaved applique onto nails.Trim the extra with cuticle scissor.
Tip: 1. Before removing weaved applique from zip lock bag, seal all the edges of all stripes with scotch tape. This holds applique in place and it does not disturb the weaving while transferring onto nails.
2. Do not apply top coat on finished nails. Since the stripes are made with real polish, top coat may melt the applique and deform the stripes.
I finished the nails by creating my own glitter topper. [Not exactly glitter topper but something to give that similar effect;)]
When i trimmed off excess stripes i was left with small cut outs. Instead of wasting it I recycled them and made by own glitter topper (look) to complete the mani. 😀 I cut the left overs in to tiny tiny random geometric shapes. Stick them with the help of toothpick onto semi wet base.
This may sound easy but mind you, it wasn’t easy at all to cut such tiny little pieces. Holding them was big challenge then to cut!! But after seeing end result i felt my efforts and patience was worth it!! What do you say?
